He’s a dish

He’s a dish. My mum said this once about an actor on a TV show (Water Rats for those watching TV in the 90s).

The three word had my sister and I (plus many of our friends who the story was relayed to) perplexed. And in fits of laughter for weeks.

‘What kind of dish’, we mused? A plate of half cold Brussel sprouts, or delicious home made lasagne? Was the dish an old terracotta ceramic or fancy toughened glass? Was this middle age heart throb the kind of dish you have to heat up in the microwave yourself after school, or served in a fancy restaurant? So many questions…
