The shoes that launched a style hunter

Before Xmas I decided to treat myself with a pair of fancy hi-tops. This may or may not have been about trying to look cool on a trip to colder places with an on-trend teenager who currently thinks I’m anything but.

What I didn’t notice while fantasising about my style upgrade, was that the already expensive price tag was charged in USD, despite me having selected AUD. And then there were extra service fees/tax added to get them to Australia. Which made this by far the most expensive of the covert expensive purchases my husband should not ever know about.

Then the shoe store didn’t sent quickly via DHL as promised.

Not sent for days. Then weeks. No reply at all from the store. Ouch.

My feet were not clad in Italian-made runners for the trip. Instead I moved through the land of the rising sun wearing these Melbourne born beauties  which arrived within two days of hitting the buy button.

Which led me to the idea of this Australian Style Hunter community. Not only did the pandemic make us think and buy locally but it’s opened my eyes - and my apple wallet - to great Australian design and service. From buying groceries and fashion, to considering where to go on holidays (and for me fitting out a house renovation - more on that to come), there’s a lot to offer without leaving our shores.

Better than hi-tops, Rollie have given me gorgeous lightweight boots that are perfect for winter weather, subdued but stylish. The navy shimmer was the perfect accessory to Japan’s beautiful falling autumn leaves too.

I hope this site helps others who also want to find out more on Australian ideas and products without scrimping on style or spending a fortune. And that it gives you a smile sometimes too.

This story not only has Rollie Nation boots to swoon over, but a happy ending too. I made a transaction report to my bank and they refunded the money without hesitation within days, and I guess are now chasing the hi-top hoodlums for a reimbursement on the unfulfilled order.

How cool is that, teenager.
