What’s your Australian style at home?

How would you describe your style when it comes to your own home?

It can be hard to put into words. Ours is all basalt and blackbutt, golden hues from sand to brown, soft natural lights contrasted with dramatic darks, along with blues and greens. It’s laid back casual with occasional bursts of drama — like the Australian coastline that we’ve grown up alongside.

The closest ‘design aesthetic’ we’ve found to describe our style is Japandi. And we know this because our favourite Australian home renovation and decor store, The Blue Space, told us so using their online style finder. Give it a go — you’ll not only get to find out more about your style but a very generous $100 Blue Space gift voucher too.

For anyone else who tends towards what we now affectionately call ‘JapandiOz’ styling — casual and simple uncluttered living, with lots of natural textures, a focus on buying less so you can pay for more for sustainable materials and great craftsmanship (not to mention the odd drama queen cameo).

We’ve got you covered.

Here are a few current favourites:

  • If you’re doing a new build or full renovation, don’t just go for the usual Surfmist or Monument. Check out the new Australian tone range from COLORBOND steel and try Dover White, Southerly or Bluegum roofing, fencing or fascade features instead.

  • For Australian furniture, we are loving Coco Republic’s clearance items which will give you their signature laid back luxury look for less. For that Japandi look, we love their modern rattan furniture and black pendant lights that add a cool and minimalistic feature.

  • To spruce up your bathroom, try this Australian made collection for bathrooms. The Blue Space couldn’t be more transparent about where the products they sell are made, so it’s very easy to shop Australian made without scrimping on style. And because these guys price match, you can be sure to always get the best deal too.

  • For the laid back luxury that only plush natural fibre bedding can give, head on over to Aura where cotton, linen and velvet get together to show you what the good life can look like in your humble abode.

  • And lastly, we don’t want you to think that uncluttered JapandiOz living means appliance free. We suggest you proudly show off Australia’s Breville rather than Euro small appliances , and this coffee machine is our ultimate pick.

At Australian Style Hunter, we only recommend brands and products that we believe are the best you can get while supporting Australian brands and businesses. We sometimes use affiliate links, which means we get a small payment if you decide to purchase our recommended products.

We’re always on the look out for anything stylish and Australian, so get in touch if you have a recommendation — we’d love to hear it. And thanks for supporting Australian style.
