Spreading the Mother’s Day joy

My sister’s kids have always been very busy on Mother’s Day. Not just spoiling their mum, for them it’s a time to acknowledge the other strong female figures who play starring roles in their lives too.

My sis started this tradition long ago when she became a parent, wisely seeing that it really would take a village.

Her kids have grown up knowing that multiple adults have their back. They can (and definitely do) test the limits, make mistakes, and strive for independence — but she can relax knowing that when it all turns to s#$t, they can get help and advice from people they can trust.

Seriously, with that level of Mama wisdom she should have a whole week dedicated to her! But my sister is happy to share her day and, and see the love shared around on Mother’s Day.

Most mum’s seem to agree that Mothers Day is about simple acknowledgement through a sweet phone call, a big hug, or a specific thanks for growing me up and helping me to design my own life.

But sometimes it is about presents too. And here’s some great ones, that are home grown.

  • For the mum who likes to play in the dirt: The Plant Runner has the best and most beautiful gifts for gardeners (and what I am hoping for on 15th May hint hint)

  • For the mum who deserves a whole-of-winter hug:  A cozy blanket, PJs or dressing gown from Sheridan.

  • For the mum who needs some pamper time: a beautiful mask or in-house facial from the best-in-the-world skincare brand that happens to be Australian, Rationale.

  • For the foodie mum: Australian wine is always appreciated by foodies, so pick out a new one for her to try.

  • And for the many mums whose retirement job is grandmother extraordinaire and deserves something extra special: Give her an unexpected super thankyou gift with a winter escape to Hamilton Island (it’s still Australian owned and run)

And for the traditionalists, there’s always lots of lovely roadside flower growers to discover on the big day.
